About The Author
Hi, I’m Cameron Roubique
I’m a horror author living in Colorado with my wife, Darla, cat Penny, and pug Vader. When I’m not writing a book or playing guitar I love to go to my local water park Water World, read old 70’s, 80’s, and 90’s pulp horror paperbacks and read old school silver age superhero comics. My three favorite writers and constants sources of inspiration are Stephen King, R.L. Stine, and Stan Lee. I grew up in the suburbs north of Denver and have lived there my entire life. I started reading at age three or four, and have always been drawn to the horror genre.
I can’t really explain why horror has always attracted my attention so much, it’s just who I am. When I was five or six I discovered my dad’s secret stash of Stephen King paperbacks on a homemade shelf in the storage closet downstairs and was immediately hooked. I was forbidden to read any of them at the time and had to be content with my R.L. Stine Goosebumps books, which I still read and re-read today.
I spent most of high school playing guitar with my band and watching the mainstream 80’s slasher movies obsessively. After high school, I studied the slasher sub-genre and discovered a lot of lesser-known slasher movies like Sleepaway Camp and Graduation Day, they became instant classics to me. I also met my wife Darla at that time.
I got married in 2013 and also completed my first 80’s slasher novel, Kill River. Click here to check out killriver.com. Disco Deathtrap and Golf Curse were my next novels, and Frankie Graves is my latest. They are all part of my Year of Blood series of slasher books that take place in 1981: the Golden Year of the Slasher.
I like to stick with the basics by writing my entire first drafts on a typewriter. I also paint all my cover art with Acrylic paints. No boring, modern-day CG covers for me. I believe that cover art is very important and should be created with just as much love and devotion as the writing within.
